The curriculum for the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering at Diponegoro University is designed for a study period of 6 semesters, with a maximum study load of 50 credits including a dissertation.

The stages in completing a dissertation in the UNDIP Civil Engineering Doctoral Program consist of :
- Research Proposal Examination for Dissertation
The Research Proposal Examination is an examination conducted to determine whether Doctoral Program participants can continue their education process after completing face-to-face lectures and is one of the requirements for Doctoral Program Participants to be referred to as Doctoral Candidates. The Research Proposal Examination includes the completeness of the research proposal for the dissertation, mastery of knowledge about disciplines related to research topics, depth of research material, mastery of the latest developments (state of the art) in the field of science and the field of research interest, originality and contribution to the field of science and/or its application. The Research Proposal Examination is led by the Head of the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program and carried out by a Team of Examiners, which consists of Promoters and Co-Promoters as well as examiners (derived from experts related to the field of science occupied by the doctoral candidate) of at least 1 (one) people and a maximum of 2 (two) people. The Research Proposal Examination Team was proposed by the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program and appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Doctoral candidates are declared to have passed the research proposal examination for a dissertation if they obtain a minimum grade of B.
2. Research Results Seminar
Dissertation Research Results Seminar is a research results seminar that will be used as material for compiling a dissertation which will be assessed by the Dissertation Research Results Assessment Committee. The Research Results Seminar Examiner Team consists of a maximum of 4 (four) examiners including the Promoter, Co-Promoter and examiners (who come from experts related to the scientific field occupied by the doctoral candidate). The Research Results Seminar is led by the Head of the Study Program
3. Dissertation Manuscript Feasibility Assessment
The feasibility assessment of the dissertation manuscript is reviewed by the Assessment Team for the dissertation manuscript. The Dissertation Manuscript Assessment Team consists of a Promoter and Co-Promoter as well as examiners (from experts related to the field of science the doctoral candidate is pursuing) a maximum of 5 (five) people and at least one of them comes from outside Diponegoro University . The feasibility assessment meeting is chaired by the Head of the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program who is also the examiner. The dissertation manuscript is declared feasible if it contains the discovery of new things, the application of new things or approaches, and contributions to the development of science.
4. Closed Exam
The Closed Examination is the final stage of a doctoral candidate in completing the UNDIP Civil Engineering Doctoral Study Program. To be able to carry out the Closed Examination, doctoral candidates must have met the applicable requirements and have received approval (endorsement) from the Promoter and Co-Promoter. The Closed Examination Committee consists of a Promoter and Co-Promoter as well as examiners (from experts related to the field of science the doctoral candidate is studying) a maximum of 6 (six) people and at least one of them comes from outside Diponegoro University. The Closed Examination is led by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering as well as the examiner. Closed Examination includes the depth of research material, analytical skills, discovery of new things, application of new things or approaches, contribution to the development of science. Doctoral candidates are declared to have passed the Closed Examination if they obtain a minimum grade of B with a minimum GPA of 2.75 (two point seven five). Doctoral candidates who have passed the Closed Examination are obliged to improve the dissertation manuscript based on suggestions and input from the examining team.
